Dental Implants

Dental implants are a great way to replace missing teeth and are designed to blend in and feel just like natural teeth.

They are very strong, stable, and durable and will last many years, but on occasion, they will have to be re-tightened or replaced due to normal wear.

The process of getting implants requires a number of visits and several weeks of healing.  Come in for a consultation with Dr. Kwong to determine your best options to restore your smile.

How long will dental implants last?

Dental implants last upwards of ten plus years if taken care of properly. They often last a lifetime for patients who regularly brush, floss, and follow the dental recommendations made at their check-ups.

How long does it take to put in a dental implant?

Placing a single implant may take as little as thirty minutes to an hour.  Multiple replacements can take more than 3–4 hours. A follow-up appointment is required several months later to allow the implant to properly heal and fuse with the jawbone. Then, Dr. Kwong will finish the implant with a fitted cap or crown.

For patients after implant surgery:

Take it easy for 48-72 hours! Resting assists the healing process and limits after surgery bleeding. Drink plenty of fluids, but nothing too cold. You may need to apply an ice pack to your face in twenty-minute intervals for the 2 days following surgery.

It is common to experience slight bleeding and minor discomfort for about two days after surgery. The third day is generally better. An increase in temperature of about 1 to 2 degrees is to be expected and is not a cause for concern. While eating, do not chew directly onto the bone graft.

Don’t hesitate to contact our office if you’re experiencing extreme pain or discomfort.
